Local Government Innovation
[Ranlo, N.C.] – The Town of Ranlo is proud to announce Commissioner Schivette Hill has received a 2026 Region of Excellence Award from Centralina Regional Council, recognizing outstanding achievements that improve and strengthen communities across the greater region.
Presented annually, the Region of Excellence Awards honor individuals, local governments and organizations whose innovative work exemplifies Centralina’s mission to expand opportunity and improve quality of life throughout its nine-county region.
Schivette Hill received the Local Government Innovation award for establishing four new citizen committees:
- The Ranlo Experience – planning all special events
- The Ranlo Resource Network – bringing social services to residents in town
- The Ranlo Public Safety Partnership – to support and find grant money for the police department
- The Planning Board – which had not existed in more than 5 years
“Commissioner Hill represents what is wonderful about local government,” said Charlie Hansen, Town Manager of the Town of Ranlo. “We are constantly asked to do more with less, and Commissioner Hill has done exactly that. She knew that, as a small town, staffing limitations were preventing the town from exploring all facets of service. Commissioner Hill’s new, innovative ideas have drastically changed and improved the lives of Ranlo residents. Her ideas embody innovation.”
More than 30 nominations were submitted for the 2026 Region of Excellence Awards, representing innovative projects, partnerships, and leadership efforts from across the Centralina region.
“These award recipients represent the very best of our region,” said Michelle Nance, Interim Executive Director of Centralina Regional Council. “From advancing sustainability and accessibility to fostering collaboration and public service, each honoree has made a meaningful impact on the communities they serve.”
