Dear Ranlo Friends and Neighbors:
As the Town comes to the close of the fiscal year, I want to remind and make you all aware of several important announcements regarding rate changes that will be taking place in the upcoming months.
First, the Town of Ranlo purchases water from Two Rivers Utilities to provide to our customers and also utilizes Two Rivers Utilities to treat waste-water for our customers. This year, Two Rivers Utilities implemented a 5% increase for water and sewer charges. In order to sustain this increase and to be prepared for long-term needs and rehabilitation of our water and sewer lines, the Town is implementing a new restructured utility billing system. Under the restructured plan, customers will only pay for actual water and waste-water used, with rates gradually increasing with increased usage.
Unfortunately, the Town maintains an aged water and waste-water system with ongoing and consistent problems that require additional funding above what is currently being garnered with levied rates. The Town must be prepared to continue to upkeep our aging lines and sustain planned increased rates from our provider. The restructured utility billing system will help increase revenue in a fair and gradual manner, ensuring that those who use the least are not disproportionately bearing the burden of an overall rate increase and by encouraging water conservation. Beginning in August, the below billing system will be implemented which will result in an overall rate increase for water and sewer charges.
Also, as a reminder, beginning in July, the Town will be increasing garbage fees to $12 per month for two cans. Anyone wishing to remain at $9 per month, may do so by returning one garbage can and contacting Town Hall to make the necessary arrangements. Please note that we will begin collecting these cans throughout the first two weeks of July for customers who have requested one of their cans to be picked up.
In these difficult times, it is more important than ever for the community and Town to work together as we strive to grow and build a sustainable future. I appreciate your understanding and your continued patience. If you would like to discuss how the new tiered water and sewer billing structure will change your monthly bill, please feel free to reach out to me directly at Town Hall and I will be happy to discuss the issue with you in further detail.
Thank you and best regards,
Jonathan D. Blanton
